Adam Abrahms
Adam C. Abrahms is a Special Labor Counsel in the Labor & Employment Law Department in the Los Angeles office. He has devoted his practice almost exclusively to representing management in labor and employment law matters. He practices before the National Labor Relations Board, state and federal agencies, and state and federal courts.
Adam provides comprehensive representation to employers on labor management relations issues, including corporate campaigns, union representation elections, unfair labor practice cases, collective bargaining, and labor arbitrations. He also counsels and trains employers on maintaining union-free status. Examples include:
- Successfully maintained or restored employers’ union free status and handled numerous representation elections through to election
- Representation of major employers in all stages and types of pre and post-election litigation
- Successfully challenged the San Francisco International Airport Card Check Ordinance, forcing the union to attempt to organize through a Board election, resulting in the first and only known defeat of a union-organizing attempt at the Airport
- Successful defense of all types of unfair labor practice charges
- Acted as lead negotiator in numerous collective bargaining negotiations in various industries achieving strong management rights, flexibility, controlled costs, and merit pay
- Managed collective bargaining agreement administration, including contract interpretation, grievance advice, arbitrations, and successful subcontracting
- Extensive counseling and training management in matters of union avoidance in all industries, including “corporate campaigns” against major employers
While his practice primarily focuses on traditional labor-related issues, Adam also litigates wrongful termination and discrimination law suits before state and federal courts and administrative agencies, and provides preemptive advice to employers on wage and hour or other related matters. Examples include:
- Successful defense of all types of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation litigations in federal and state courts
- Defense of both individual and class wage and hour claims before administrative agencies and federal and state courts, including proper classification, overtime, meal and rest period, and similar claims
- Extensive experience with California wage and hour laws, including policy and procedures advice, and counsel and defense of claims
Adam also is a frequent author and speaker on a variety of issues impacting employers and has advised members of Congress, the State Legislature and other elected officials on such issues.
